Prayer for peace
O Divine Spirit. Help us to accept that none of us is perfect, that we all can make mistakes.
Help us to see that when we get angry or push for our own rights we may be hurting others.
Help all people to see the good in others and to recognise that we are all human beings.
Help us to accept our differences and glory in our similarities.
Help us today to take the first step.
May we all smile at a neighbour and talk to a stranger.
May we understand that it is more important to share our time than our possessions.
With these first steps we will help peace within communities and then peace between communities to grow.
Because only with understanding and love can we hope for peace to spread across the world.
Amen
This prayer was started during a Yorkshire Unitarian lay preacher’s morning activity led by Kate Taylor who asked us to write a Prayer for Peace for an Interfaith gathering. I finished it late the following Saturday and read it during the Serendipity service on Peace at our York chapel. Elizabeth Faiers
