Opening words

We have made many decisions that have brought us finally to worship in this place. May our worship here continually increase our understanding of ourselves; and give us confidence that we can improve our lives and those of others by our behaviour.

Spirit of truth and life and love In our prayers and meditations today let us remember those families in Charleston who have lost loves through the savage massacre in a church, and also let us marvel at their ability to forgive the perpetrator. They show us Christianity at its best. Let us also think of those families in this country bewildered by the behaviour of their members who have travelled with motives that they do not understand, to join violent, cruel movements intent on dominating the world.
