PRESENTATION

“They brought him up to Jerusalem
to be presented to the Lord.”
Luke 2: 22

Take your newborn child to your sacred place, your temple,
to be presented to the Holy One.

Give thanks for the light that has come into your lives as
this new life opens.

Give thanks for the incarnate promise in this new birth;
for the saving hope it brings to our troubled world;
for the glory with which it illuminates our darkness;
for another chance of redemption in a human life.

Dedicate yourselves to your children’s loving care.

Be to them the best that you can be,
guarding them against all harm and evil,

guiding them into the Way of peace and kindness.

Help your children to live freely and well:
walking the right path, raising up the fallen,
revealing the hidden truths that pierce the heart –
and heal it.

By your own conduct teach wholesome living and
the human values that are divine.

Under your care may your children grow strong and wise,
touched by the Spirit’s favour.

We are the servants of holiness.

May we fulfil our calling to
love God and our neighbour.

And at the close of this hour
and the close of this life
may we depart in peace,
according to the eternal Word.
